A Quilt For My Dad

I have wanted to make my dad a quilt for a while now. I had a large amount of Oh Deer and I chose to make simple wonky blocks. Wonky is my favorite!

For the back I used a simple Robert Kaufman flannel in yellow.

The quilt measures approximately 58 inches wide by 72 inches long. I wanted to make sure it was long enough I cover him well. He gets cold easily now a days.

For the binding I used a dot print from the same line. As always I used a zig zag stitch for the binding. Even though I've been told that's not propper I like the way it looks and holds up.

Pillowcase Challenge

I am excited to announce a new challenge!! For those of you who do not know I am part of the do good stitches group's humility circle and each month we send quilts to the Pine Ridge Reservation. I have teamed up with a guidance counselor from the school out there to hand out handmade pillowcases to children in elementary through high school. Many of us can't send an entire quilt so here is a simpler way to help out and brighten someone's day. For each pillowcase you send post a picture on IG and tag #pillowsforpineridge I will be giving out random gifts such as small FQB's, rotary cutters, and other sewing notions and other gifts. Please mail your pillowcases to:

TGIFF

My husband has been asking for a quilt for some time now. Every time I have one completed I end up selling it or giving it away so, with my sister reminding me almost daily, I finally finished a quilt just for him!!

He is a big OSU fan so I decided to go with a quilt that, to me, looks like the block O.  I went with flannel but I'm hoping it won't be too hot for him.

I have made quilts with flannel backing before but never a quilt that was all flannel. I have to say my machine bogged down quite a bit on the binding and the quilt was pretty heavy to handle while quilting. Although The binding was a bear I like the way it turned out.

I also found that I'm not good with plaid... I tried several times to match it up and as you can see in this pic I didn't quite get it to match.

Quilt measures 58 by 74 inches.
A variety of flannels were used and Quilters Dream Batting was used as always. Aurifil 50wt thread was used for piecing as well as quilting. I chose to stitch in the ditch for this quilt. I also echoed some of the red plaid. This quilt is based on the pattern The Couch Quilt by Country Threads... I just modified it a bit.

A Flurry Finish

I recently finished my Flurry quilt. I just love it!! The fabric is Flurry by Kate Spain for Moda. I used a disappearing nine patch pattern and it came together quickly but I just now got around to finishing it! (I completed the top a year or more ago)

The back is a little hard to see in this pic but the fabric is tossed with Christmas trees, mittens, holly, candy and stars. It's so cute!

If I remember correctly I used five charm packs for this quilt. Its a super easy pattern :)
