Crazy For Dots and Stripes

So I had some custom bedding made and when I received it it was exactly what I had wanted. When I started looking at it closely I realized that the duvet cover was nothing more than a giant pillowcase (basically) and I thought... I bet I could have made this!

Then I was a a local department store (Elderbeerman) shopping with my mom when I noticed this really pretty quilt. It used all sorts of beautiful colors and the blocks were in all shapes and sizes. So again I thought I bet I could do this! With that I started looking for some fabric and decided it was time to use old faithful again.

I found this amazing site called Fat Quarter Shop and found some fabric I thought I would like to use to try and make a quilt. It is Crazy For dots and Stripes and you can find it here: http://www.fatquartershop.com/Crazy-for-Dots-and-Stripes-RJR-Fabrics.asp?Store_Id=499&T=1

So I ordered it and let it sit for months to afraid to mess it up. I finally gathered the courage and started cutting and sewing. and here is the top:
Now what to do with it? Hmm.... I talked to a friend at work who makes the most beautiful quilts and she encouraged me to quilt it myself. Whoa! That is WAY beyond my comfort level!! So, I let the quilt sit and sit and sit some more. I finally gathered some courage and dug in on it! I used warm and natural batting simply because that is what she uses! And here are some pictures of my first ever quilt that I quilted myself (with old faithful)!

Now I know its not perfect but I did it myself so I am very proud! Now I just need to get the courage to complete the binding!!

Church Bake Sale

So the Church Bake sale was today and the money went to the youth group taking a mission trip. I decided to make cupcakes! I was crunched on time so I made the from a mix :(
But I got these great cupcake liners and toppers from Micheal's...
 And this super cute box....
Its all in the packaging! It makes them look extra yummy and professional. Here is the buttercream recipe:

4 sticks of room temperature butter
8 cups powdered sugar
1/4-1/2 cup milk

In electric mixer cream butter, slowly add powdered sugar and milk. Add milk to get your desired thickness.

Old Faithful

So this is old faithful... I haven't sewn a stitch since I was 17 (I am now 32!!). This old brother machine that I purchased in high school has been stored in the shed for years. I pulled it out and it still works! It may not have all those fancy stitches, bells and whistles but its doing the trick! Oh how I would love a new one but at this time it cant be justified. Maybe if I can get the hang of sewing and create some beautiful projects that will be my gift to me :)
